Topic Tuesday: Value

Kelry1“Value” (By: Kelry Burton)

I’m reminded of an analogy I heard one time. I want you to imagine that I had a $20 bill that I was going to give you. You would obviously want it, right? Well, what if I crumpled up the $20 bill, stomped on it, and maybe even threw it in the trashcan. Would you still want it? Most likely, you would probably want it no matter what I did with it because it is always going be worth $20.

Now I want you to imagine that you are that $20 bill. Even if you have been stomped on by life and overwhelmed by negative thoughts, you still have value. Just like that $20 bill, you still have worth.

I want you to know that even though you may be, in a sense, a “$20 bill,” that numbers do not define you in any way — how much you weigh, how tall you are, how much money you have/make etc. None of these things matter. You are worthy of love. You are worthy of happiness. You are worthy of a life full of adventure. You are always good enough. A $20 bill that has been run over a few times is still worth $20. You are just the same. If you have been run over by life, stomped on, nearing your end, you still have value. You can get through it. The edges can always be smoothed over. The crinkles can be flattened. Your value is still present and always will be. Not a single person, thought, action, or word can take that away from you.

A crinkled $20 bill has more of a story to tell. It feels different. It looks different. It has been through more than a crisp $20 bill fresh from the bank. Be proud of your story. You are special, and you have value.
