“Help! My Over-control is Out of Control: Understanding Treatment Targeting for Over-controlled Clients”
This presentation will review cases that feature maladaptive coping behaviors and ineffective in-session behaviors in order to show the differences between under-controlled and over-controlled populations. By identifying the appropriate treatment target and intervention, clinicians will gain an understanding on how to navigate “stuck points” often present in sessions. Clinicians will learn the basics of RO-DBT and understand what clients are good candidates for the treatment model.
- Attendees will learn to identify a client’s presenting behaviors and temperament as under-controlled or over-controlled.
- Attendees will understand the treatment goals between the two coping styles and apply the appropriate treatment hierarchy in session.
- Attendees will be able to describe the characteristics between clients who are under-controlled versus over-controlled.
