“Holding Caregivers and Holding Ourselves: Utilizing Principles of DBT, ACT, and Self-Compassion to Manage Burnout with Eating Disorders”
Presentation Overview:
In working with eating disorders, it is not uncommon to witness the demoralization of caregivers. The treatment team works tirelessly with integrity to support these caregivers. this presentation will install competence with integrating principles of self-compassion, ACT, and DBT, and can assist staff in better supporting caregivers, while modeling the very same skills they teach. Participants will be equipped with interventions to share with families and caregivers, as well as to implement in their own self-care routines.
Learning Objectives:
- Attendees will be able to integrate principles of Emotion Focused Family Therapy, ACT, and DBT into their own self-care routines.
- Attendees will be able to assist staff in effectively supporting caregivers, while modeling the same skills they teach.
- Attendees will learn and be able to apply at least one skill from Emotion Focused Therapy with their caregivers.
Speaker Biography:
Jennifer McAdams, MA, LCPC, CEDS is the Clinical Director of Eating Disorder Services with Eating Recovery Centers-Insight / Chicago,. Jennifer earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Professional Psychology from Roosevelt University, is Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. Jennifer’s primary treatment modality focus has been on Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Exposure Response Prevention, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotion Focused Family Therapy, and Family Based Therapy. Jennifer was a treating clinician in the FBT-DBT study with Insight and Daniel Le Grange. Jennifer specialized in work with individuals / families in higher levels of care and individuals from adolescence through adulthood.
