ARFID: Etiology & Treatment Workshop

Join Renewed and Dr. Katja Rowell, MD, for an informative half-day workshop on ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). Learn about the factors that contribute to childhood feeding challenges, learn prevention and intervention strategies and discuss appropriate therapeutic approaches. This workshop is intended for professionals and/or graduate-level students.

Workshop Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe factors that contribute to childhood feeding challenges including ARFID: for example, related to medical, sensory and oral motor or aversive experiences and how prenatal factors and feeding practices can contribute.
  2. Describe in broad terms, different approaches to early feeding challenges, from behavioral to sensory and child-centered or ‘responsive’ therapies.
  3. Consider relevant history and factors to include in assessment to guide appropriate therapies, and how therapeutic approach may differ based on ARFID subtype.
  4. Discuss difference in weight restoration for ARFID vs. Anorexia Nervosa (AN).
  5. List three strategies to reduce anxiety and support appetite for ARFID patients.

CE Hours

A total of 3.5 CE hours will be available for NASW, TAND and NBCC attendees. For those not seeking CE hours, a certificate of attendance will be available.
