Presentation Title:
“Pre-Treatment Intervention: A Highly Effective pathway to Restore Healthy and Healing for Eating Disorder Clients and Their Loved Ones”
Presentation Overview:
Getting an eating disorder patient to treatment is often very challenging. Using clinical intervention prior to treatment admission to engaging loved ones to get the person to treatment can be very effective. Properly facilitated, this can be the start of healing for the entire family system in which trust, integrity and values have been compromised. Once the person agrees to treatment, safe transport without additional trauma is a must with this often complex, medically compromised patient. In this presentation, participants will be taken through the process of an intervention and transport for a person with an eating disorder, and case examples will be presented as well.
Learning Objectives:
- Attendees will be able to identify and explain factors that must be considered when planning an eating disorder intervention.
- Attendees will be able to identify and differentiate between a rehearsed versus invitational intervention.
- Attendees will be able to define and explain the components that must be addressed when doing an intervention when doing an eating disorder transport to treatment.
