Topic Tuesday: Thankfulness
“A Thank You Letter to the Helpers” (By: Maci Hughlett)
Dear Helpers,
Thank you. Thank you for seeing us through to the end of the ugly, the hurt, and the pain. Thank you for seeing our futures when all our vision could behold was the intrinsic blackness. Thank you for not seeing the eating disorder, but for seeing us.
Thank you to all of the friends and family who watch us suffer. It could not have been easy to stand by while our bodies were being damaged and our gifts becoming compulsions. Your presence alone has stood the test of time trust puts in our path. Thank you for not giving up on us but believing in a recovery. Thank you for loving us at our most unlovable.
Thank you to all of the doctors, specialists, and therapists. Thank you for having more wisdom that we will ever contain about the reasons for the disorder. There is freedom in being able to name the monster and you freely gave this gift by Grace. You understand, you have always understood. And you know what healthy looks like for each individual – and we thank you.
Thank you to the helpers, the teachers, the perfect strangers, for pushing us beyond ourselves. Thank you for seeing a human being, not an eating disordered. Thank you for allowing us to feel and allowing us to heal. Thank you for the hand to hold and for showing us the Light in the darkness. Thank you for helping. Thank you for seeing. Thank you for loving.
Sincerely,
Recovered
